The 2005 Bowl for Kids' Sake fund-raiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County is scheduled for Sunday, April 3, at Turner's Dual Lanes in Hagerstown. The event begins at 11 a.m. with the last teams finishing at 5 p.m.
Money raised in the event helps fund the agency's services to children in the program, as well as recruiting efforts to find mentors for children waiting to be matched with Big Brothers, Big Sisters and Big Couples.
There are 29 children waiting to be matched with a mentor. In Big Brothers Big Sisters community-based program, adult mentors are matched with children growing up in primarily single-parent families who need the friendship and guidance of an adult. In a school-based program mentors are matched with children needing educational help.
Last year's Bowl for Kids' Sake raised more than $45,000. This year's goal is $50,000.
A team may have as many as five bowlers. Big Brothers Big Sisters encourages businesses, schools, clubs and organizations to form teams and challenge other teams to raise the most money.
