Rockville, Md. - A Hagerstown man has been indicted on charges stemming from two incidents in Montgomery County, Md., in the first two months of 2005.

The Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office announced Thursday that Pov N. Srun, 33, of the 800 block of West Washington Street, was charged in an indictment handed up by a Montgomery County grand jury.

Srun, whose March 18 preliminary hearing was canceled as a result of the indictment, was charged with first- and second-degree sex offense, second-degree rape, three counts of third-degree sex offense and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense, according to Montgomery County State's Attorney Douglas F. Gansler.

John McLane, communications director for the office, said it is a routine practice for attorneys there to seek an indictment rather than rely on a preliminary hearing. McLane said Srun will be tried later this year in Montgomery County Circuit Court in Rockville, Md. It is unlikely those proceedings will start before August, McLane said. A scheduling conference involving members of the prosecution and defense is set for April 29.

Srun was arrested in Hagerstown on Feb. 21, just hours after authorities allege he committed sex offenses against a 16-year-old girl in Montgomery County.

On Feb. 21, in Bethesda, Md., an attacker allegedly forced that girl into a minivan at the Wildwood Shopping Center and sexually assaulted her, Montgomery County Police said. Police said the assailant grabbed the girl by the throat, told her that he had a knife and tried to cover her face with a bag.

On Jan. 25, in Rockville, a man forced a woman into her car and later into a Honda Odyssey in the parking lot of a school. Police allege the man then raped the victim.
