Restaurant inspections

The following food service establishments were inspected by the Washington County Health Department in February and found to have critical violations that needed to be corrected immediately:

Ruby Tuesday, 1645 Wesel Blvd., Hagerstown - * potentially hazardous cold foods must be stored at 45 degrees Fahrenheit or colder - ham and potato salads observed at 54 degrees Fahrenheit and 50 degrees Fahrenheit (corrected); can opener needs to be cleaned (corrected); ice condensation buildup observed on floor of walk-in freezer in need of cleaning.

Great Steak and Potato, 17301 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown - * potentially hazardous cold foods must be stored at 45 degrees Fahrenheit or colder - refrigerator observed at 54 degrees Fahrenheit (corrected); cleaning needed for grill, hood filters, and floors under equipment; working thermometers needed in all refrigeration/freezer units to ensure proper temperature.

7-Eleven, 802 Salem Ave., Hagerstown - * hot food products that potentially are hazardous must be maintained at a minimum temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit or above (corrected); hand sink must be kept open for use (corrected); cleaning needed for floor behind counter, under storage shelves in cooler, milk storage shelves in cooler to remove soil accumulations.

No. 1 China Garden, 17608 Garland Groh Blvd., Hagerstown - * fly strips cannot be hung over food preparation area (corrected); hand-washing supplies needed at hand sink (corrected); dry food containers must be covered; light bulb needed under exhaust hood; hand sink must be kept open for use; broken ceiling tiles must be repaired or replaced; cleaning needed on floor in walk-in freezer and around all kitchen equipment to remove soil accumulations; written food safety plan must be prepared and kept on site.

Playland USA, 13610 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown - * two severely dented cans of pizza sauce observed (discarded); cleaning needed for overhead hood filters over grill and top of large pizza oven to remove soil buildup.

Chan's Wok, 761 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown - * hot water must be available at sinks (corrected); cleaning needed for overhead filters in exhaust hoods and floor behind cooking equipment to remove soil accumulations; wall damage observed to wall adjacent to toilet in women's restroom in need of repair; no air gaps observed between drain line and floor sink under three compartment sink.

The following food service establishments were inspected by the Washington County Health Department in February and found to have sanitation violations that must be corrected within 30 days:

Great Steak and Potato, 489 Prime Outlet Blvd., Hagerstown - cleaning needed for floor under grill; soil residue observed on can opener blade needs cleaned as a food contact surface (corrected); working thermometers needed in all refrigeration/freezer units to ensure proper temperature; plumbing leak observed at hand sink in need of repair.

McDonald's, 17301 Valley Mall Food Court, Hagerstown - absence of paper towels to facilitate hand washing at hand-washing sink (corrected).

Subway, 17301 Valley Mall Food Court, Hagerstown - personal drinks cannot be stored in ice machine (corrected).

Hancock Truck Stop Inc., 434 E. Main St., Hancock - must repair damaged counter near service area, ceiling tiles in back storage area, floor of walk-in refrigerator and hole in wall outside walk-in refrigerator; cleaning needed for inside of walk-in freezer to remove soil accumulations.

Sheetz, 192 W. Main St., Hancock - cleaning needed for inside of walk-in freezer to remove debris and soil accumulation.

Red Byrd Restaurant, 19409 Shepherdstown Pike, Keedysville - hole in wall near walk-in refrigerator must be sealed.

Keedysville Country Store, 19409 Shepherdstown Pike, Keedysville - must obtain chemical test strips for three-compartment sink to check concentration of sanitizer for washing and sanitizing.

Sanders Cookie Jar Bakery, 13140 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown - cleaning needed for floors and walls of walk-ins, under storage shelves, inside large oven, on floor under oven and refrigerator, floor under display case, walls throughout kitchen and dry storage containers to remove soil accumulations; trash container lids must be kept closed.

Imperial Chinese Restaurant, 13112 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown - cleaning needed for exhaust hood filters and floor under cooking equipment line to remove soil accumulations; water pressure too low at hand sink next to ice machine; uncovered food observed stored in walk-in cooler (raw chicken and raw beef), walk-in freezer (raw chicken) and in refrigerator (lobster and shrimp); thermometers must be present in all units containing potentially hazardous foods.
