County's 911 center receives certificate

Washington County's 911 Communications Center received a Certificate of Excellence at Tuesday's County Commissioners meeting.

Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook presented the certificate to center employees on behalf of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

The center met or exceeded expectations during a required annual inspection. The Maryland Emergency Number Systems Board stated that the "citizens are currently being well-served by a team of very competent people who take public safety seriously," according to a written statement from the county.

Purchasing agent is contest winner

A Washington County Highways Department employee won the county's Purchasing Month contest.

Purchasing Agent Karen Luther announced the winner, Dave Blubaugh, at Tuesday's County Commissioners meeting.

The contest, open to county employees, asked 10 questions relating to the county's purchasing regulations. Blubaugh correctly answered nine of those questions. He won $50.

March is recognized as National Purchasing Month across the state and nation.
