Boonsboro students tackled math problems

March 17, 2005

BOONSBORO - Boonsboro Elementary School intermediate classes used their mathematical skills in February.

Every morning, the school was given a mind teaser to solve and "Martha the marvelous math wizard," alias fourth-grader Meghan Sikes, shared activities involving estimation, graphing and statistics.

During the week, more than 300 students worked with their partners and about 20 parents as they faced 32 hands-on Math Fair centers. Hands-on equations, many geometric manipulatives, pattern blocks, coin clue puzzlers and domino activities were among the math tasks they faced.

The program was sponsored by Robert Kann, QUEST instructor at the school.
