Williamsport Town Council turns down youth's funding request

March 16, 2005|by ANDREW SCHOTZ

WILLIAMSPORT - A creative attempt at fund raising was turned down by the Williamsport Town Council on Monday.

David Cunningham, an eighth-grader at Springfield Middle School, sent the town a copy of a letter he wrote asking for money for a class trip to Florida.

David wrote that he needs to raise $1,500 for a trip that will last four days, or 5,760 minutes.

His letter suggests that each recipient could donate $2.60 to cover 10 minutes of his trip.

"We don't sponsor individuals," Assistant Mayor Walter W. Tracy Jr. said.

"Right," Mayor John W. Slayman agreed, before moving on to the next item on the agenda.
