A featured home that's great for a decorator

March 14, 2005|by MALINDA SHAVER of HomeSource

Space and light abound in this week's featured home. Just over two years old, the house has model-home appeal, a style that will adapt to traditional or contemporary decorating, and bright, neutral-toned decor that lets the owners' style take center stage.

Located conveniently near routes 40 and 66, and within a mile or two of access to Interstate 70, this all-brick contemporary offers a country setting with many close-by amenities, from shopping and schools to golf courses and recreation areas. The 1.23-acre setting provides a level rear yard for outdoor activities.

Main living areas flow from entry hall to two story family room, or to the dining room that beckons guests from the entry foyer. Just meander from family room to large breakfast area to open kitchen, enjoying the view of South Mountain and the morning light. If you prefer a more intimate space for quieter activities, the main floor includes a smaller formal living room and a den or fifth bedroom or children's playroom, with an adjacent full bath and separate laundry.

The social center for the family is likely to be the counter, between breakfast room and kitchen. The Corian countertops and ceramic tile floors provide a neutral but warm-toned background. The appliances include built-in microwave, double wall oven and cooktop. A walk-in pantry supplements generous cabinet space.

Custom touches throughout the house extend to recessed lighting, a security system, a gas fireplace in the family room, and crown molding. All told, the house offers over 4,000 square feet of finished space.

For relaxation and just plain partying, the lower level recreation room is a grand space, with all the elbow room you need for a billiard table, for example: it's 29-by-25 feet. If you need to customize an area for your hobby workroom, the remaining unfinished square footage allows for that and storage too. There's also a large, attached two-car garage.

From the entry, oak-railed stairs lead to a generous hallway. There are four bedrooms. The master bedroom has a luxury-hotel heritage, you'll think, measuring 25-by-17 feet, with a seating area featuring large windows in an angled bay. Above, a tray ceiling is featured. The master bath also is something to aspire to-two large vanities, geometric ceramic tile surrounding the whirlpool tub, a separate four-foot shower. A second full bath is located between two 14-by-13 foot bedrooms.

This home offers expansive room for living, yet in a location that's just two miles to I70, and 25 minutes to Frederick. Open your mind to country life with a visit. Contact Chris Horn of the Horn-Test Team, Coldwell Banker, at 301-745-1535 to arrange an appointment.
