" I don't know why all these people are bellyaching about the comics in the paper, because all they have to do is read this column."
- Smithsburg
"If I owned a large business, then one of the things I would do is put a couple of regular parking only spaces up front where the handicap, pregnant woman, and managers of the month spaces are. Most of the time I have no problem walking halfway across the parking lot to get into the store but the other night when the snow was falling and it was absolutely miserable out, then it would of been nice to park in the numerous empty special parking spaces."

"I wanted to thank Buck Shipley and Cecil Martin for shoveling my walk and Buck Shipley for cleaning out all of the mailboxes."
"To whoever that said Junior is better than Jeff Gordon, Gordon has more of a record than Junior could ever think about having. He's nothing but a wannabe Jeff Gordon. He wishes he was good as Gordon. Sorry, but that will never happen."

"Please tell Mr. Snook that Jefferson County's growth is under control - under control of the developers and the developers' interests."
- Jefferson County, W.Va.
"I just wanted to give LeRoy Myers a news flash. The reason there are no emissions testing stations in Allegany and Garrett counties is because they are exempt from the vehicle emissions test."

"I do understand that the Mail Call can be used by people who have knee-jerk reactions and who say things that don't make a lot of sense and they don't have to identify themselves but the one that appeared in the Wednesday, March 2, paper takes the cake. What does this mean? I think Hagerstown should discontinue all charity, welfare, etc., until we find out who is betting $76 million dollars on tip jars alone. Who is doing that? What does that mean? What difference does it make in who's betting it and why should Hagerstown discontinue all charity, welfare and clinics until we find out who is doing this? That is about the dumbest thing I've heard in Mail Call."
- Hagerstown
"I would like to know why teachers can say shut up in school but yet kids if they back talk they go automatically to detention."

"I read in Wednesday's paper that someone was talking about the high rent in Washington County and they were complaining about the landlords and the remodeling they needed to do, saying that if they kept the places up then they wouldn't have to do so much remodeling at one time. That is nonsense. I have a small house that I rent out for $500 a month plus some extra utilities. It is ridiculous the people who move in and move out and just simply trash the place and that's why I have to remodel. I should charge more just to cover for all the damage that most people do. Oh, and tell me to screen better. Sure, then as soon as I screen better than I am accused of being a racist or biased or whatever excuse they want. It's not a racial issue, it's a bum issue and if you don't want to pay the rent then buy a house like everyone else does."

"People need to lighten up on this lead paint business. Anybody dumb enough to eat paint, society doesn't need anyway."
"I would like to know when the County Commissioners and the water department are going to supply public water to the 80 something homes in Cascade area. The paper has turned it over several times in the past years and they have the funding now and we are still waiting. Quality water should be for all residents of Maryland not just for developers. We have been paying taxes here a lot longer than these new residents in these new homes have, so we should get quality water here before any new water lines put in these new residential areas should be."
