Volunteers needed at Sideling Hill center

Nancy Wilson, manager of Maryland's welcome centers, said volunteers are needed at the Sideling Hill Welcome Center near Hancock, and at the nearby Interstate 70 East and West welcome centers near Myersville, Md.

Volunteer opportunities include greeting visitors, assisting with directions, hotel accommodations and itineraries, greeting motor coaches, and working with the tourism industry and private sector representatives, Wilson said.

She said training will cover the history of Maryland, its people, heritage, government, economy, geography, recreation and attractions.

"This is very suitable for adults who have a true fondness for helping people, and a real love for Washington County and Maryland," Wilson said.

Those interested in volunteering may call Janet Shenk at 410-767-6292, Wilson said. She encouraged retirees and senior citizens to participate.
