Mount Aetna fire company receives grant

March 02, 2005

MOUNT AETNA - The Mount Aetna Community Fire Co. has been applying for grant money for five years, Deputy Chief Anthony Veney said in a news release.

Last week, the company was successful.

The fire company was approved for a $104,112 federal grant to be used to buy new equipment, including a supply hose, a new generator and self-contained breathing apparatus, according to a news release from U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md.

The company was awarded the grant from the Department of Homeland Security's Office for Domestic Preparedness.

In 2004, more than 20,000 departments nationwide sought funding totaling more than $2.6 billion through the department's grant program.

Since 2001, at least a dozen Washington County fire departments received money through the program for purchases and health/safety programs.
