Rachel Carr is Miss Jefferson Co. pageant winner

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Rachel E. Carr was crowned Miss Jefferson County 2005 Saturday night at Wright Denny Intermediate School.

Carr, the daughter of Dan and Vicky Carr, received her crown from Jessica Lorraine Morrison, Miss Jefferson County 2004.

For winning the title of Miss Jefferson County, Carr received a $3,000 scholarship and the chance to participate in the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant.

Carr is a senior at Georgia State University, where she is pursuing a degree in physical therapy. Her talent was jazz dance and her platform was CPR awareness.

Ten contestants competed for the title.

First runner-up was Kara Frye, a junior at Shepherd University who is pursuing a degree in music education. The daughter of Jonathan and Janis Frye, her talent was classical voice and her platform was Creating Attitudes of Respect for Everyone, or CARE. Frye received a $1,500 scholarship.


The second runner-up was Tiffany Lawrence, who graduated from Shepherd University with a degree in business administration and political science. The daughter of Tony and Cheryl Lawrence, she attends Shenandoah University, where she is pursuing a master's degree in business administration.

Lawrence received an $800 scholarship. Her talent was vocal performance and her platform was the power of positive self-esteem.

Each nonfinalist received a $300 scholarship.

Also competing were Kasha Brown, Amber Miller, Melissa Godwin, Alicia Bryant, Ashley Breeden, Nicole Michelle Wheeler and Jessica Yurish.
