Officers raising their own fitness along with community funds

February 27, 2005

RANSON, W.Va. - The Ranson Police Department has formed a team that will spend the next six weeks trying to lose weight and get in shape, while at the same time raising money for a good cause.

The weight loss challenge began Tuesday. During the fitness program, each officer will follow the Weight Watchers program. Gold's Gym in Charles Town also has agreed to provide a free three-month membership to the officers along with a personal trainer to help participants reach their weight-loss goals and make long-term changes to their lifestyles.

At the end of six weeks, the officers will be evaluated again to see how they progressed. The department's total weight loss will be announced at The Rotary Club of Charles Town's 5K Fun Run on April 9.

Registration for the Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m., and the Run/Walk will begin at 10 a.m. Proceeds from the officer's fund-raiser will go to the Rotary Club of Charles Town, which donates to a variety of community nonprofit organizations.
