Just the facts please...

Washington County Hospital officials intend to build a new hospital approximately three miles from their current buildings on East Antietam Street, abandoning the old site, once plans are approved by the Maryland Health Care Commission.

According to plans submitted to state officials, the new hospital would sit on a parcel next to Robinwood Medical Center, off Robinwood Drive, and physically connect to the medical center. The site currently is outside city limits, but could be annexed into the city with council approval.

The $234 million hospital plans include building a five-story, 502,000-square-foot building that would house 267 beds and 14 operating rooms, including dedicated rooms for cesarean sections, trauma and cystoscopy, and the electronic viewing of internal organs.

The plans include departments for emergency treatment, imaging, outpatient care, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and mental health.

The hospital also would retain its helipad in the move, which has drawn the ire of some neighbors of the proposed plans.

A final plan for the vacated buildings on East Antietam Street has not been set, but possibilities include reusing some of the buildings or tearing them down to make room for new homes.
