Army Pvt. Dustin T. Hastings, son of Timothy and Shari Hastings of Hagerstown, graduated with honors Sept. 16, 2004, from basic training at Fort Leonardwood Mo.

While there, he served as squad leader of his platoon and received the highest marksmanship award at graduation, where he was honored with the expert marksmanship medal.

Hastings then graduated from AIT Training at Fort Sill, Okla., on Nov. 18, 2004. He began his active duty in the Army on Dec. 14, 2004, at Fort Sill.

Hastings, a missile launch rocket fire support specialist, is a 2003 graduate of South Hagerstown High School. He joined the Army on July 8, 2004.

Navy Seaman Recruit Stephen L. Holmes, son of Denise L. Mimnall of Hagerstown and Marvin L. Holmes of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Holmes is a 2004 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.




Air Force Airman 1st Class Jessica A. Covington, daughter of Tanya Covington of Philadelphia and stepdaughter of Edna Williams of Chambersburg, Pa., graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Covington is a 2004 graduate of the Scotland (Pa.) School for Veterans Children, Scotland, Pa.




Navy Seaman Recruit Bradley Ammons, son of Patricia L. and Randy Ammons of Falling Waters, W.Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Ammons is a 2004 graduate of Hedgesville High School, Hedgesville, W.Va.




Army Pvt. Andrew B. Geesaman, son of Jeffrey and Patricia Geesaman of Waynesboro, Pa., graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Geesaman graduated in 2000 from Waynesboro Area Senior High School.




Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class George J. Molnar, whose wife, Geraldine, is the daughter of Sandra S. and William M. Heeter of Greencastle, Pa., recently retired from active duty after 20 years of service.

Molnar most recently served with Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center, Norfolk, Va.




Civilian Chyanna M. Lawson, daughter of Levere M. Russell of Frederick, Md., and Lyle J. Russell of Seattle recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District Seattle.

Lawson will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

Lawson is a 2001 graduate of Ingraham High School, Seattle.




Navy Airman Apprentice Andrew L. Young, son of Karen S. and Michael A. Young of Greencastle, Pa., recently was recognized as Plane Captain of the Month while assigned to Strike Squadron 105, deployed in support of the global war on terrorism aboard USS Harry S. Truman.

Young is the grandson of Glenn Young, also of Greencastle.

Young, a 2003 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, joined the Navy in July 2003.




Air Force Staff Sgt. Todd A. Wivell, son of William and Rachel Wivell of Emmitsburg, Md., participated in the 55th Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C., as a member of the Joint Task Force-Armed Forces Inaugural Committee.

Wivell served as an assistant supervisor of the Air Force Honor Guard and is regularly assigned to Bolling Air Force Base, Washington.

He has served in the military for 10 years.

His wife, Kelly, is the daughter of Helen Campbell of Great Falls, Mont.

Wivell is a 1988 graduate of Catoctin High School, Thurmont, Md.




Navy Seaman Kenneth V. Seitz Jr., son of Ruth A. and Robert A. Lutz of Greencastle, Pa., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Seitz is a 2002 graduate of Greencaste-Antrim High School, Greencastle, Pa.




Navy Seaman Apprentice Deanna K. Burke, daughter of Veronica J. and James B. Burke of Greencastle, Pa., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Burke is a 2004 graduate of James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg, Pa.
