Mail Call for

February 22, 2005

"I am curious as to why people put stickers on the back of their cars that say, 'In Loving Memory of ...' I have never seen this done in other states before and I was just wondering because I have seen it a lot in the Hagerstown area."

- Washington County

"I think I have the problem solved about Social Security. If you haven't worked and put into it, you shouldn't get it at all."

- Martinsburg, W.Va.

"Why is it such a secret when they are doing any building that they can't let us know what is going on? They are building a lot of buildings on Wesel Boulevard and they are tearing something up on Hopewell Road. Why can't they let us know what they are doing? What is the secret?"

- Washington County

"I am so glad to read in the paper that the tip jars have a good profit this year. More than any other year, I hope this time they give more money to charitable organizations instead of the Little Leagues around town."

"In reference to a call in Thursday's Mail Call. Someone asked about credit card companies providing photos on their credit cards. The major credit card company that is located at the state line of Maryland and Pennsylvania does issue a photo credit card. Just wanted to let everyone know that."

- Clear Spring

"For all the people who voted for Bush: Where is bin Laden?"

- Hagerstown

"I want to add my welcome home to Mr. and Mrs. Frazier's note about their son who is in the military. I don't know the man, but I want to thank him for serving his country and hope he gets home safe and sound."

- Sharpsburg

"The only thing that keeps me optimistic about this country and Social Security is that I believe that President Bush will be impeached before his second term is completed."

- Washington County

"I noticed that Penny Nigh admitted that she was the one that really pushed getting the licensing program for the landlords. That is just another reason to not to re-elect her."

- Hagerstown

"I see in the paper where Citicorp contributed $100,000 to the North High stadium effort, which means $1.4 million has been pledged so far. Why can't they go ahead and start with the groundbreaking work so when they do get the full pledge the prices won't go up on the projects that they already started? This work is well overdue for that stadium."

- Halfway

"In regard to the person who wanted to know where Bush was getting the money to give to the foreign countries. It's easy, he is going to cut all the budgets for the middle-class people like farmers, Medicare, schools, etc. He was even going to cut the military pay benefits until the Democrats in the congress got after him, then he decided not to. For all you Republicans who think he is doing a good job, you need to get your head and eyes examined. He is the worst president we ever had."

- Washington County

"I live near Boonsboro and I am having trouble with the delivery of my mail. Five minutes after my carrier put my mail in the box I went to pick it up and found a business letter of mine in the ditch at my mailbox. I picked it up and thanked God that the wind didn't blow it away. A lot of the time, my mail doesn't even come to me and now I know why."

- Boonsboro

"I am calling because on Saturday, Feb. 19, I was in the vicinity of Outer Drive and Bramly Drive area in the North End. I lost my cell phone. It was a Nokia phone in a black leather body glove case. If you find this, call me at home at 301-432-0105."

- Washington County

"This is my first experience I had with signing my son up for minor league baseball. He is 6 years old and will be 7 during the minor league season. When I went to sign him up at National Little League, they told me that he was going to be on a team with 12-year-olds. He will only be 7 years old. How will he get his playing time if he is playing with 12-year-olds? They told us that they didn't have enough 7 and 8 year olds to form a league just for that age group. I want him to like the game and I want him to play. I think he will be a good player, but I don't think he will play much, since he is the only 7- year-old playing with 12-year- olds. Why couldn't they send us to another league that has a team for that age group?"

- Hagerstown

"Spring soccer sign-up ends Feb. 24 and you can get the blue forms at the McDonald's in Williamsport. After Feb. 24, you will be put on a waiting list."

- Falling Waters, W.Va.

"To the SUV owner who is leaving Maryland because of the registration fee: When you find that perfect state that has everything you need and agree with, call back and let us know and we will all join you. I am really sure that moving out of state is cheaper than that registration fee. Don't think so."

- Hagerstown

"To the person in the Pin Oak area who complained about the cat. This is to inform you that this matter with this cat has been resolved now. He will be missed by his owner and companion for many years. Have a nice day."

- Hagerstown
