Josh and J.C. were two of more than 23,000 students who participated in this year's testing program, administered by the AATG, a national organization with over 7,000 members.

The German examination is administered on levels 2, 3, and 4. Topics include listening comprehension, reading skills, applied grammar, and idioms in context. By demonstrating their exceptional competence in the German language, both Josh and J.C. have qualified to win a fully paid, four-week homestay in Germany this summer.




Kristen Wachtel of Boonsboro was named to the Dean's List at Wesley College, Dover, Del., for the fall 2004 semester.

She has also been awarded a summer internship at Nextel Communications in Reston, Va., in the NASCAR Marketing Department.




Jonathan M. Petty was named to the Dean's List at University of Maryland, College Park, Md., for the fall 2004 semester.

Petty, the son of Julie and Bobby Watson and Barry Petty, will graduate in May with a degree in criminal justice. He plans to attend law school following graduation.

The following Washington County students received degrees from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., at the university's Fall Commencement Ceremony held Dec. 17:

Albert McGarity of Hagerstown received a Bachelor of Science in Business degree in marketing management from the Pamplin College of Business.

Brett Valentine of Hagerstown received a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry from the College of Natural Resources.




Sherry Eileen Slayman of Hagerstown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Slayman, was honored recently at a reception for scholarship recipients and donors at Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, Va.

Slayman, who has received the H. Dunlop Dawbarn Scholarship and the Navas Family Scholarship, also was named to the Honors List for the fall 2004 semester.




The following area students were named to the Dean's List at Grove City College, Grove City, Pa., for the fall 2004 semester:

David Steenburg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Steenburg of Hagerstown. A 2003 graduate of Grace Academy, he is majoring in history.

Aaron Barth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barth of Hagerstown. A 2004 graduate of Shalom Christian Academy, he is majoring in biology.

Erin Moroz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Moroz of Greencastle, Pa. A 2002 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, she is majoring in English.

Derrick Yoder, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Leon Yoder of Mercersburg, Pa. A 2001 graduate of James Buchanan High School, he is majoring in biochemistry.




Ellen Brosh of Charles Town, W.Va., a psychology major, was named to the Dean's List at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, W.Va., for the fall 2004 semester.




Michelle Elysia Feiser of Hagerstown was named to the Dean's List at High Point University, High Point, N.C., for the fall 2004 semester.




Caleb J. Gill of Boonsboro, son of Adele and Don Gill, received a Presidential Award for Excellence in Scholarship from West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va., for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the fall 2004 semester.

Gill, a 2003 graduate of Boonsboro High School, is double-majoring in mechanical and aeronautical engineering.




Matthew Wallace, son of Dan and Cathy Wallace, was named to the fall 2004 Dean's List at the University of Maryland, College Park, Md. He is a 2004 graduate of Williamsport High School.




Timothy H Dorsey Jr. of Hagerstown, a combat veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, graduated from Hagerstown Community College in December with an Associate of Arts degree and is now attending Frostburg State University.

Dorsey, who was a participant in the invading group forces in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, was honorably discharged from the Marines in August of that year. A sociology major at FSU, he plans to graduate in the 2005-2006 school year.




Rebekah Gayman, daughter of Lynn and Susan Gayman of Greencastle, Pa., was named to the Dean's List at Toccoa Falls Bible College in Georgia for the fall 2004 quarter with a 4.0 grade-point average.

Gayman, a 2004 graduate of Mason Dixon Homeschoolers, is majoring in cross-cultural studies.




Meredith Dian Gift, daughter of Ed and Barb Gift of Hagerstown, was named to the Dean's List at Towson University, Towson, Md., for the fall 2004 semester.

Gift is majoring in communications and political science. A 2002 graduate of Smithsburg High School, she graduated from Hagerstown Community College in May 2004 with an A.A. degree.




Maggie Tierney, daughter of Terry and Kathy Tierney of Hagerstown, was named to the Dean's List at Towson University, Towson, Md., for the fall 2004 semester.

Tierney, a senior, is a 2001 graduate of Boonsboro High School. She is majoring in education.




Beth Luangamath of Hagerstown, Alan L. Myers Jr. of Fairplay and Laura A. Roby of Boonsboro were named to the Academic Dean's Honor Roll at Antietam Bible College, Hagerstown, for the fall 2004 semester.
