Elaine G. Lewis, 71


JUNE 25, 1933-FEB. 17, 2005

GREENSBURG - Elaine Geneva Lewis, 71, of Sandstone Drive in Smithsburg, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Washington County Hospital. Born June 25, 1933, in Cascade, she was the daughter of the late Samuel E. and Agnes M. McClain Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Richard "Tom" Lewis, on April 22, 2004. She was employed by the former Tastee-Freez Restaurant in Chewsville, and Cavetown Cannery. She is survived by four daughters, Janet L. Verdier and Vicky L. Lewis, both of Smithsburg, and Sharon L. Sprecker and Deborah D. Cromwell, both of Hagerstown; four sons, Harry Lewis Jr. and David E. Lewis, both of Hagerstown, and Dale W. Lewis and James A. Lewis, both of Smithsburg; one brother, Samuel E. Kipe Jr. of Lake Wales, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Cooper of Smithsburg, and Elenor Kline of Hagerstown; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Pastor Randall S. Reid will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Foxville. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Raymond R. Hess, 58

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. -Raymond R. Hess, 58, of 2345 Sipes Mill Road, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa. Born Nov. 7, 1946, in Warfordsburg, he was the son of the late Rinehart and Grace Hill Hess. He retired from the Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown. He served in the Army Reserve in Chambersburg, Pa. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore, Pa. He also was a member of Needmore Volunteer Fire Co., and American Legion Post 561 in McConnellsburg. He is survived by one son, Darin L. Hess of Raleigh, N.C.; his companion, Judith K. Linscott of Warfordsburg; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one sister. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, McConnellsburg. Pastor Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Needmore. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.


John P. Ambrose, 87

CASCADE - John Paul Ambrose, 87, formerly of 14240 McAfee Hill Road, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at St. Catherine's Nursing Home in Emmitsburg, Md. Born March 14, 1917, in Lantz, Md., he was the son of the late Clarence Roger and Grace Irene Brown Ambrose. His wife, Madelyn Hays Ambrose, died in 1990. He retired from the Victor Cullen Center in 1979 after 42 years of service with the maintenance department as a mechanic. He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Maryland Classified Employees Association. He is survived by one sister, Mary G. Edwards of Silver Run, Md.; three brothers, Ira Ambrose of Gettysburg, Pa., Earl Ambrose of Rocky Ridge, Md., and Wesley Ambrose of Littlestown, Pa.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dick Ambrose. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, Thurmont, Md. The Rev. Barry Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Weller Cemetery, Thurmont. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 13010 Mount Zion Road, Sabillasville, MD 21780.


Tony C. Blickenstaff, 33

FUNKSTOWN - Tony Christopher Blickenstaff, 33, of 201 E. Chestnut St., died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at his home. Born July 9, 1971, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Jackie Blickenstaff of Greencastle, Pa., and Virginia Rosalie Olinger Blickenstaff of Funkstown. He was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School. He was employed by Grove Racing Stables in Bowie, Md. He was a former member of Grace Brethren Church. He was a member of the Maryland Breeders Cup Association. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Kayla Rose Blickenstaff of Charles Town, W.Va.; two brothers, Thomas Blickenstaff of Hagerstown, and Todd Blickenstaff of Greencastle; one niece; and one nephew. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate. Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Cemetery, Wolfsville. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Trust Fund for Kayla Rose Blickenstaff, Bulldog Federal Credit Union, 580 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
