School board changes budget schedule

February 19, 2005

The Washington County Board of Education's budget schedule has been moved up, with the board expected to vote whether to adopt a draft of the budget at a newly scheduled meeting Tuesday.

The budget vote had been scheduled for a March 1 meeting. The board now will vote at a 6:30 p.m. business meeting Tuesday, according to the meeting agenda. The date of a public hearing for presentation of the operating budget also has changed.

Once set for March 8, the school board's hearing on its proposed $176.6 million operating budget for the fiscal year starting July 1 now is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. on March 1 in the board's auditorium. The school board will present its draft budget to the Washington County Commissioners March 8 at 7 p.m. in Hagerstown Community College's Kepler Theater.

The schedule was changed to accommodate an earlier meeting date with the commissioners, Washington County Public Schools spokesman Will Kauffman said. The school board had expected to meet with the commissioners the week of April 12, school system officials have said.
