CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man told borough police Friday that he shot a man who was stealing things from his car while it was parked in the back yard of his home late Wednesday. Christopher Darby, 18 of Chambersburg, was taken to Chambersburg Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment of a gunshot wound, police said. Police did not say where Darby was shot or the weapon used. He was released from the hospital Thursday and taken before Magisterial District Judge Gary Carter on charges of theft, criminal attempt, possession of an instrument of crime, loitering and prowling at night, police said. Darby was jailed on $50,000 bond. Police said they responded to 547 Oak St. around 11:14 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a theft in progress. When they arrived, they found Ronald L. Keith detaining Darby. Police said Keith told them he confronted Darby for removing things from his vehicle. During the confrontation, Keith shot Darby, police said. Police said the investigation is continuing. - Richard F. Belisle
