Foursome of string stars shines tonight

February 17, 2005

Named for the brightest star in the constellation Lyra, the Vega String Quartet will shine on stage today at The Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown. The concert is the second of four performances in Hagers-town Community Concert Association's 46th season. The season began with Dixieland jazz and will wrap up in May with Broadway show tunes.

The four Chinese-born members of the Vega String Quartet - Jessica Shuang Wu on violin, Guang Wang on cello, Wendy Yun Chen on violin and Yinzi Kong on viola - will entertain concertgoers with chamber music that has earned the group numerous accolades since it started performing in 1991. The Juilliard- and Manhattan School-trained musicians captured four top prizes at the 1999 Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition and first-place awards at the Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition, Carmel Chamber Music Competition and the National Society of Arts and Letters String Quartet Competition.
