Restaurant inspections

The following food service establishments were inspected by the Washington County Health Department in January and found to have critical violations that needed to be corrected immediately:

Higher Ground Coffee, 1201 Dual Highway, Hagerstown - *evidence of inadequate temperatures for potentially hazardous foods (one bacon and egg sandwich and four creme brulees in display refrigerator-corrected, voluntarily discarded); chemical spray bottle must be labeled to identify contents and prevent accidental use (corrected); ice machine drain line must have air gap.

Bob Evans Farms, 190 Railway Lane, Hagerstown - *severely dented can of kidney beans (voluntarily discarded); storage shelves in walk-in freezer need to be cleaned (corrected); towels must be provided at hand sinks (corrected).

Rick's China Garden, 17301 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown - *uncovered chicken in walk-in freezer covered with ice condensation (discarded); food cannot be stored in ice bin (corrected); missing ceiling and floor panels must be replaced or repaired; light bulb under exhaust hood must be replaced; hood filters need to be cleaned; containers of food cannot be stored on floor (corrected); light bulb shield in freezer must be repaired.

Boston Market, 1620 Wesel Blvd., Hagerstown - *evidence of inadequate food temperatures for potentially hazardous food (cheeses-discarded, equipment must be repaired); current state license must be displayed; light bulbs must be shielded in food preparation area.

The following food service establishments were inspected by the Washington County Health Department in January and found to have sanitation violations that must be corrected within 30 days:

Courtside Cafe, 11400 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown - thermometers needed in all refrigeration units; sanitizer must be present at three-compartment sink to properly sanitize dishes and utensils; griddle and grill must meet commercial standards.

CiCi's Pizza, 1580 Wesel Blvd., Hagerstown - leak around drain of three-compartment sink must be repaired (corrected); hot water valve at hand sink in women's restroom must be repaired; floor sink drain under three-compartment sink not draining properly (corrected); ice scoop cannot be stored in ice maker (corrected).

Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, 405 Northern Ave., Hagerstown - exhaust hood filter over charbroiler must be installed; floor under and around equipment needs to be cleaned; wall damage beneath hand sink must be repaired; thermometers needed in all refrigeration equipment.

LJ's & The Kat Lounge, 1130 Conrad Court, Hagerstown - soap needed at the hand sink for employees (corrected); damage on shelves next to ice machine must be repaired (corrected); trash lids must be kept closed (corrected).

Broadmore Assisted Living at Hagerstown, 1175 Professional Court, Hagerstown - inadequate sanitizer level in dishwasher; chemical test kit must be provided at dishwasher and three-compartment sink to properly sanitize dishes and utensils.

Antietam Iron Works General Store, 3768 Harpers Ferry Road, Sharpsburg - chemicals cannot be stored in kitchen area.

Domino's Pizza, 17549 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown - wall and baseboard repairs must be made.

McDonald's, 1729 Massey Blvd., Hagerstown - floor under equipment must be cleaned (corrected); paper towels needed at hand sink (corrected); ice scoop cannot be stored in ice machine (corrected); container of chicken cannot be stored on the floor in walk-in freezer (corrected).

Save-A-Lot, 1161 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown - crack in wall near display coolers needs to be sealed; floor at entrance to walk-in freezer must be repaired.

The Ground Round, 1703 Wesel Blvd., Hagerstown - thermometers needed in all refrigeration units; exhaust hood filter must be repaired; can opener needs to be cleaned (corrected); cleaning needed inside the ice cream freezer to remove food particles.

Evergreen, 18356 College Road, Hagerstown - thermometers needed in all refrigeration units; exhaust hood filters need to be cleaned; current state license must be displayed; must obtain chemical test strips to check level of sanitizing chemicals.

Le Gourmet Chef, 720 Prime Outlets Blvd., Hagerstown - current state license must be displayed.

Bavarian Pretzel Bakery, 17301 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown - broken floor tiles, wall in back storage area, baseboard and storage shelf must be repaired.

Java Express Cafe & Grill, 1732 Dual Highway, Hagerstown - hand sink in food preparation area must be repaired; paper towels needed at hand sink.

Dairy Queen/Orange Julius, 493 Prime Outlets Blvd., Hagerstown - can opener needs to be cleaned (corrected); ice scoop must be stored with handle up (corrected).

The following food service establishment had no violations in January: Pick's Place, 111 N. Conococheague St., Williamsport.
