Brian Kerns takes over Hancock baseball program

HANCOCK - Brian Kerns has a baseball background to point the Hancock baseball program in the right direction.

Growing up as a player while his father, Dan, served as Hancock's baseball coach for 20 years, Brian Kerns has been around the baseball diamond for many years. He also has a brother, Mick, who is the head coach at St. James.

A four year starter at Hancock from 1987-90, Kerns went on to play at Alabama on a baseball scholarship playing in the competitive Southeast Conference from 1990-93. After leaving Alabama, Kerns returned to Hancock and had playing stints with the Greencastle Athletics and the Winchester Royals.

He became head coach at Southern Fulton High School in 1999 and played for the Hagerstown Braves until 2002.
