Work crews are excavating on Lanvale Street to install new sanitary sewer lines, according to the Hagerstown Engineering Department.
If the weather is good, employees of Charles E. Brake Inc. will work on the road until Friday.
Lanvale Street, which is in Hagerstown's West End, will be closed to traffic near Summer Street.
A detour will send traffic to Elgin Boulevard and West Washington and Ross streets.
Emergency vehicles won't be able to pass through the closed area.
