He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town.

He was a member and past fire chief of Independent Fire Co. of Charles Town; former secretary of West Virginia Fireman's Association, a member and past president of Jefferson County (W.Va.) Memorial Park, a member and past president of Charles Town Lions Club and a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948 of Charles Town, among other organizations.

He is survived by one sister, Virginia L. Frye of Charles Town; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vicky D. Longerbeam and Mary L. Houser, and one brother, Charles T. Houser.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town. The Revs. Richard Kroll and Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town.

Robert S. Lenherr, 86


FEB. 23, 1918-JAN. 25, 2005

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert S. "Bob" Lenherr, 86, of Menno Haven, formerly of Fayetteville, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Feb. 23, 1918, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Reid and Carrie Snowberger Lenherr Sr.

His wife, Pauline Horsh Lenherr, died July 19, 1995.

He retired in 1970 from L.E.A.D., where he worked as a welder.

He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion.

He is survived by four daughters, P. Faye Carbaugh, R. Jean Ditzler and Tina M. McCleaf, all of Chambersburg, and Cheryl A. Hockenberry of Shippensburg, Pa.; four sons, Donald H. Lenherr of DuBois, Pa., Robert S. Lenherr Jr. and Dennis E. Lenherr, both of Chambersburg, and Max D. Lenherr of Fayetteville; two brothers, Reid D. Lenherr Jr. of Chambersburg and R. Eugene Lenherr of Tempe, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Vernon Isner will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro, where members of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW will conduct military graveside services.

Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edna M. Evans, 79


JUNE 28, 1925-JAN. 25, 2005

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Edna M. Evans, 79, of Bunker Hill, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born June 28, 1925, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Utah and Sally Richmond Smith.

She was a member of Stars and Bars Motorcycle Group.

She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Evans; one son, Robert A. Evans of Bunker Hill; five sisters, Agnes Unger of Bunker Hill, Gladys Rogers and Thelma Shade, both of Arden, W.Va., Wanda Rogers of Inwood, W.Va., and Nancy Frye of Glengary, W.Va.; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and eight brothers.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Winifred I. Fitz, 87

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Winifred I. Fitz, 87, of Luther Ridge and formerly of 1147 Hamilton Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Manorcare Health Services in Chambersburg.

Born Aug. 29, 1917, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Herbert A. and Alda Byers Shaffer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel A. Fitz, in 1997. They were married April 15, 1949.

She was a 1935 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She had been employed by the former Interwoven Stocking Co.

She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.

She is survived by two sons, C. Patrick Fitz of Muscatine, Iowa, and Samuel S. Fitz of Chambersburg; one granddaughter, Jennifer R. Fitz of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one grandson, Adam M. Fitz of Chambersburg.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Jacqueline Shockey.

Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Beth Lupolt will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

SEPT. 21, 1912-JAN. 25, 2005

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Reva S. Kave, 92, of Shepherdstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at her home.

Born Sept. 21, 1912, in Mathias, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Luther and Ida V. Strawderman Souder.

She was a 1933 graduate of Shepherdstown High School and a graduate of Shepherd College.

She taught school in Hardy County, W.Va.
