Dorothy Peddicord, 78

Dorothy Bell Peddicord, 78, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at her home.

Born Jan. 7, 1927, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Rush and Mary Bryan Hawbaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Clay Fogle, in 1959.

She retired from Grove Manufacturing in Greencastle, Pa.

She is survived by one daughter, Julie Wuslich of Arlington, Va.; one son, Neil Fogle of Hagerstown; three sisters, Mildred Harbaugh of Hagerstown, Barbara Ramsey of Williamsport and Martha Hunley of Florida; four brothers, Frederick Hawbaker, Dave Hawbaker and Eddie Hawbaker, all of Hagerstown, and Dick Hawbaker of Clear Spring; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Rush Hawbaker Jr.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Olive L. Shoemaker, 89


DEC. 31, 1915-JAN. 23, 2005

CLEAR SPRING - Olive Lillian "Sis" Shoemaker, age 89, formerly of Fairview Mountain, Clear Spring, and a resident of the Williamsport Nursing Home, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at the home.

Born Dec. 31, 1915, in Indian Springs, Md., she was the daughter of the late John Mummert and Bessie Carbaugh Mummert.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Shoemaker, in 1992. She was a member of the Hagerstown Bible Church. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker to her family and many others.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Jean Cottrill and her husband, Sonny, of Clear Spring; two sons, Richard Michael Shoemaker of Hagerstown and Gerald Douglas Shoemaker and his wife, Alice Louise, of Clear Spring; three sisters, Helen Lerch of Hagerstown, Virginia Flanagan of Richmond, Va., and Madeline Hutson of Clear Spring; four grandchildren, Lori Ann Dom and her husband, Rodney, of Big Pool, Sara Louise Imes and her husband, Michael, of Waynesboro, Pa., Sherry Lynn Hutchison and her husband, Greg, of Plano, Texas, and Scott Douglas Cottrill and wife, Beccy, of Big Pool; and three great-grandchildren, Lakyn Renee Sanders, Abby Lora Cottrill and Benjamen Alan Imes.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Noreen Ward, Catherine Zello and Dorothy Shoemaker, and four brothers, Ronald Mummert, Richard Mummert, Lindey Mummert and Loren Mummert.

Services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Dale Carver will officiate. Burial will be held at the Little Rose Hill Cemetery of Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon.




Arlynn L. Shaffer, 75


FEB. 18, 1929-JAN. 22, 2005

Arlynn Leroy Shaffer, 75, of 17003 Oakleigh Way, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 18, 1929, in Hollywood, Pa., he was the son of the late Leroy Samuel and Elva Hutzell Shaffer.

He retired from the Chessie System railroad.

He was a member of the Chapel of Praise in Warfordsburg, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Dinges Shaffer; four daughters, Norma J. Nocifera, Kathy Hardy and Mary E. Fuante, all of Cleveland, and Cynthia A. Hughes of Sod, W.Va.; two sons, Robert L. Shaffer of Hagerstown and William Knott of Bel Air, Md.; five sisters, Doris Mortimer of Bedford, Pa., Nina L. Fisher of Waynesboro, Pa., Edith Chirdon of Pittsburgh, Gertrude Taylor of Granite, Md., and Norma Philippi of California; one brother, Terry Shaffer of Breezewood, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Jack Hiles will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Carroll C. Smith, 76


JAN. 24, 1928-JAN. 23, 2005

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Carroll C. Smith, 76, of Monterey Lane, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at his home.

Born Jan. 24, 1928, in Lantz, Md., he was the son of the late Walter H. and Icie V. Flohr Smith.

His wife, Betty J. Stahley Smith, whom he married May 15, 1949, died Dec. 30, 1997.

He last owned and operated Waynesboro Antique Market in Waynesboro, Pa.

He is survived by three daughters, Vanessa S. Findiesen of Annapolis, and Carolyn J. Misner and Mary M. McMann, both of Waynesboro; one son, Rodger C. Smith of Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and his companion, Susanna Brumage of Keedysville.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Gaver; and three brothers, Walter Smith, Lloyd Smith and Dilbert Smith.

Memorial services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor Charles Smith will officiate. Burial will be private.
