"I too am a new resident in Keedysville. With the exception of a few, we have found the people up here, Boonsboro and in fact, all of Washington County to be extremely friendly. There is another side to it. I don't know who the unhappy new residents are meeting, but I wish they could meet the people we are meeting. We have been very happy since we moved up here."

"The family of Victor, who passed away on Jan. 5, would like to thank Staples Distribution Center for their cards, flowers and donations. We really appreciated it. Thanks again, from the family and friends of Victor."

- Hagerstown

"To the mom whose fifth- grader goes to Western Heights Elementary. The teacher said that there was not enough time to coordinate having the kids give their allowance to the tsunami victims. This was said to be uncaring. I would like to point out, many children don't get an allowance. The teacher has to choose activities so that no one feels left out or not as good as their classmates. The teacher is not allowed to explain to any other child how some of their classmates are poor, but she knows who has free breakfasts and free lunches. A caring teacher makes activities an equal opportunity for the rich and poor alike. Just because a teacher said no doesn't mean that she doesn't care."

- Hagerstown

"There is an easy solution to our Social Security problems. Put the billions of dollars back in that Bush took out to finance the war which was unnecessary, as it has accomplished nothing but hatred for us. Therefore, fear and hatred is more rampant and Social Security is in trouble."

"I have two children and a deadbeat dad. I am calling about a comment in Tuesday's paper. Yeah, he is a deadbeat dad, but he still has every right to see his children. But he doesn't pay any child support for them. Nothing is done to him, but yet I have to let him see his children. He shouldn't have any rights to those children until he pays the child support."

- Washington County

"I am calling about the price of tags in Maryland. West Virginia pays $64 every two years, Virginia pays $70 every two years, Pennsylvania pays $72 every two years and Maryland pays $180 every two years. Why are we so much more?"

- Hagerstown

"Across from Knode Circle in Boonsboro, there is a stone monument. Can someone tell me what that is?"

- Washington County

"Nice job on the new Boonsboro School Complex sign in front of the schools. Nice job."

- Boonsboro

"I followed a school bus one day last week. It stopped three times within 500 feet to let off three different kids. Why do these kids have to be scattered like that? Are they that lazy that they can't walk a few feet to their house? They have to be dropped off at their driveway? Why not just pull up in the driveway and carry them to the door."

- Hagerstown

"In regards to Terry Headlee's article in Sunday's paper about his decision to take out the comic 'Shoe.' I am sorry to hear that you think comic sections are boring. Could someone tell me who he reports to because if he thinks 'Pearls before Swine' is funnier than 'Shoe,' then maybe he would be better as a used car salesman."

- Hagerstown

"After reading complaints about the removal of some comics from the paper, I think the editor deserved hearing something positive. To the person who is responsible for moving the answers to the crossword puzzles in Sunday's paper. Thanks, it's so easy to fold the paper and work the puzzle and check the answers in the upper left-hand corner at the same time. Great idea."

- Halfway

"Why doesn't Bush and his administration admit that Iraq isn't ready to hold elections? It wouldn't be a huge surprise. They refuse to tell us the truth about what is going on in Iraq and they refuse to admit that it is chaos over there. People are dying, two candidates that were going to run in the election were assassinated on Tuesday. It's foolish to go on this blind path that we have been on since we went to Iraq."

"In Monday's paper there was an article in the police log about two horses in Smithsburg being attacked by dogs. I just can't believe that the paper couldn't do a better article on this because that poor miniature horse was brutally attacked and killed by these dogs. It is believed that these are the same dogs that killed a bunch of goats in the same area. I think there should be an article put back in the paper to let everyone in the Smithsburg and Cavetown area aware of these dogs running around. I guess we will have to wait until a small child is attacked and killed before we know about it."

- Washington County
