Bessie M. Peddicord, 89


MAY 21, 1915-JAN. 18, 2005

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Bessie May Ray Peddicord, 89, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Ellicott City, Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, in Berkeley Springs.

Born May 21, 1915, in Elkridge, Md., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Ray and Bessie Chenoweth.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John H. Peddicord Sr.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia M. Bassler of Ellicott City and Betty Lee Crane of Boynton Beach, Fla.; one son, John H. Peddicord Jr. of Martinsburg, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Watson C. Peddicord and two grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Slack Funeral Home, Ellicott City. The Rev. John Hamilton will officiate. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville, Md.

James F. Stouffer, 68

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - James F. Stouffer, 68, formerly of Chambersburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Feb. 20, 1936, in Orrstown, Pa., he was the son of the late John H. Stouffer and Sylvia C. Franklin Stouffer.

He served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army for three years. He received the National Defense Medal and Proht Badge, among other medals.

He was a member of the VFW.

He is survived by one son, Christopher Stouffer of Chambersburg; five sisters, Evelyn L. Hock and Sylvia J. Chamberlin, both of Orrstown, Sondra A. Perry of York, Pa., Diane K. Mickey of Chambersburg and Melanie A. Stouffer of Fairfield, Pa.; and four brothers, John C. Stouffer of Shippensburg, Pa., Kenneth A. Stouffer of Chambersburg, Herbert A. Stouffer of Shippensburg and Harold W. Stouffer of Burke, Va.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara A. Snowberger and two brothers, Dana L. Stouffer and Ronald K. Stouffer.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m., at Orrstown United Brethren Church.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Kerry L. Schneider, 58


JAN. 17, 1947-JAN. 19, 2005

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Kerry L. Schneider, 58, of 47 Baltimore St., died at his home Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005.

He was born Jan. 17, 1947, in Magnolia, N.J., the son of the late Erwin and Lina Colleta Schneider.

Mr. Schneider was a member of Gettysburg Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He was a registered nurse for many years.

He is survived by his former wife, Marilyn Schneider of Hagerstown, Md.; two stepsons, Dexter Lynch and Emanuel Schneider, both of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Tabitha Schneider of Hagerstown; and two brothers-in-law, Compton Telford of Hagerstown and Preston Telford Jr. of Pennsylvania.

The funeral service will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg.




Ashley L. Yost, 17

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Ashley LeAnn Yost, 17, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, from injuries received in an automobile accident in Berkeley Springs.

Born Aug. 4, 1987, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Lisa Mae Butts Yost of Berkeley Springs and Terry Lynn Yost of Warfordsburg, Pa.

She was a student at Berkeley Springs High School and attended James Rumsey Vocational Institute, where she was working toward certification in the child development specialist program.

She was a Protestant.

She wrote poetry.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her stepfather, Darin P. Sweitzer; two sisters, Danielle B. Butts of Inwood, W.Va., and Elizabeth D. Yost, at home; three brothers, Christopher A. Yost, Morgan L. Yost and Hunter J. Yost, all at home; three stepsisters, Erika M. Sweitzer, Jessica N. Sweitzer and Alyssa K. Sweitzer, all of Hagerstown; her maternal grandmother, Darlene M. Stoner of Greencastle, Pa.; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, John G. Butts.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Robert S. Osborne will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Morgan County, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 9 a.m.

BURNT CABINS, Pa. - Wilmetta Pauline King, 97, of Helen Edwards Estate, and formerly of 641 E. Market St., McConnellsburg, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown, Md.

Born July 17, 1907, near Hustontown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George Henry and Minnie Brant King.

She was a 1929 graduate of Hustontown High School.

She was employed by Knouse Foods and The Heinz Co. in food preparation.

She was a member of Webster Mills Free Brethren Church, and attended Fairview Methodist Church.
