No. 6 Gaels rout No. 10 Titans, 74-45

BOYS BASKETBALL



FREDERICK, Md. - Gene Johnson had nine points and Joe Spierenburg added six to help St. Maria Goretti outscore Tuscarora 23-4 in the second quarter and the No. 6 Gaels rolled to a 74-45 victory over the No. 10 Titans on Wednesday night.

Johnson finished with a game-high 19 points, while Spierenburg added 13 to go with seven rebounds and eight blocks for Goretti (11-5), which used its size advantage and interior defense to create opportunities in transition.

Kevin Brashears had 15 points, while Andrew Chambers had 12 with 10 rebounds and five assists. Tim Alexander had six assists.

Malcolm Kattes led Tuscarora (6-4) with 14 points, while Mitchell Weedon had 12 and Danny Reed added 10. Kattes grabbed 12 rebounds in the loss.

Greencastle 75, Camp Hill 48


CAMP HILL, Pa. - Jaren Gembe hit five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 26 points as Greencastle rolled past Camp Hill in Mid-Penn nondivision action.

Nick Schreiber had 11 points, while Erick Burkholder scored 10 for the Blue Devils (6-9). Treavor Gelsinger dished out 10 assists and Adam Wiestling grabbed nine rebounds.

Waynesboro 69, Susquenita 59


COVE, Pa. - Kevin Kline had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead Waynesboro to a Mid-Penn nondivision win over Susquenita.

Josh Arendt added 20 points and three steals, while Jordan Reitz added nine points and six assists for the Indians (9-7). Scott Livengood also had six assists in the win.

MSD 66, St. James 62


FREDERICK, Md. - Matt Greissing had 23 points and 10 rebounds for St. James, which fell short against Maryland School for the Deaf (8-5).

Miles Chan had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Saints (1-7) while Eddie Dorsey added 10 points.

No. 7 JB 60, East Pennsboro 24


MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Alicia Myers had team highs of 22 points, eight assists and seven steals to lead James Buchanan to a Mid-Penn nondivision rout of East Pennsboro.

Leanna Cristofano had 10 points and Kayla Meyers pulled down 11 rebounds for the Rockets (10-5).

No. 8 Southern Fulton 55, Goretti 24


Brandy Swope had 12 points and six assists for Southern Fulton as the Indians breezed past St. Maria Goretti.

Sam Cain added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Indians (12-1) while Candace Bard had 10 points.

Sarah Spierenburg scored 13 points for the Gaels (6-10).

Susquenita 37, Waynesboro 25


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Susquenita led by just one at halftime, but used a 14-5 third-quarter burst to pull away and defeat Waynesboro in a Mid-Penn nondivision game.

Amanda Hykes led the Maidens (1-13) with nine points, while Jessie Miller had 17 rebounds and Jill Aldridge grabbed nine.

Camp Hill 66, Greencastle 41


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Amy Brown scored a game-high 17 points to lead Camp Hill (4-8) past Greencastle.

Jade Dunhour had 10 points and Brittany Main had eight rebounds and five points for the Blue Devils (2-13).

Martinsburg 3-0 at quad


STRASBURG, W.Va. - Andrew Rocheck had wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke to lead Martinsburg to wins against Strasburg, Stonewall Jackson and Woodstock Central.

Rocheck won the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 46 seconds and the 100 breast in 1:19. Jake Henry won the 100 fly in 1:14 and D.J. St. Claire took second in the 100 back in 1:27.




GIRLS SWIMMING



Brockway leads Martinsburg at quad


STRASBURG, W.Va. - Kelly Brockway won the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 13 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 1:03 to lead Martinsburg in a quad-meet with Strasburg, Stonewall Jackson and Woodstock Central.

Meagan Hunt won the 500 free in 7:04 and took second in the 200 individual medley for the Bulldogs, who beat Strasburg, but fell to Stonewall and Woodstock.




WOMEN'S BASKETBALL



Hood College 52, Notre Dame 47


BALTIMORE - Danielle Gallagher scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the second half to lead Hood College to a come-from-behind victory over Notre Dame in the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference.

Danielle Allen added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Blazers (4-6, 1-0).

Marshall Automotive 28, L.A. Sliffer Home Improvements 24: Kayla Payne had eight points and Amber Myers had six points for Marshall Automotive. Calde Nolde had 14 points for L.A. Sliffer, while Emily Lum added eight.

Middletown Sportsland 14, Oldline Graphics 5: Natiale Young, Lauren Mann and Julian Gaulding each had four points for Middletown Sportsland. Kim Seabright had four points for Oldline.

Diamonds Winter Workout


Spaces still are available for Diamonds Winter Workout, a preason baseball training camp for ages 9-18 at the Four-Star Complex in Williamsport.

The camp begins this Sunday and runs through March 16.
