Police seeking man who robbed bank

January 09, 2005

The Hagerstown Police Department still was searching Saturday for the man who robbed Hagerstown Trust at the corner of West Franklin Street and Westside Avenue in Hagerstown's West End Friday night and is seeking the public's help in finding him.

Sgt. Paul Kifer said Friday that the man showed a gun about 5:46 p.m. Friday and demanded money from one of the bank's tellers and walked off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Kifer said the bank teller said that the man appeared to have black shoe polish smeared on his forehead and around his eyes, appeared to be in his late 50s to early 60s, was between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighed about 150 pounds and was wearing a tan coat with a dark colored collar and a red or burgundy toboggan-type hat.

He last was seen walking east toward Alexander Street.

Anyone with information on the robber may call Detective Shawn Schultz at 301-790-3700, ext. 253, or Detective George Brandt at ext. 242.
