Frederick Secular Humanists


FREDERICK, Md. - Sunday, Jan. 9, 1:30 p.m., community room of C. Burr Artz Public Library, 110 E. Patrick St. Jan Steenblick, who helped build the first commercial PIXE (proton induced X-ray emission) machine, will lead a discussion on how PIXE can cause strange denials and reactions in business people and others. MAUGANSVILLE - Monday, Jan. 10, social hour at 9:15 a.m., meeting at 10 a.m., U.A.W. Union Hall, Maugans Avenue. Following coffee and doughnuts, the Rev. Clark Carr of Grace United Methodist Church will speak of his experiences as a major/chaplain in the Maryland National Guard. All Mack retirees are welcome. Winter meeting cancellations will follow school closings (not school delays).

Habitat for Humanity's Women Build

AARP Chapter 623


FUNKSTOWN - Tuesday, Jan. 11, 1:30 to 4 p.m., Funkstown American Legion. The program will be about senior victim advocacy. New officers will be installed and refreshments will be served. The 2004 officers will meet at 11 a.m. Incoming officers may attend.

Country butchering and pancake breakfast


Saturday, Jan. 8, beginning 6:30 a.m., Wilson Ruritan Club, 1/4 mile west of Huyetts Crossroads on U.S. 40. Breakfast is all-you-can-eat with one serving of sausage or pudding, orange juice and coffee. Cost is $3. Meat goes on sale at

7 a.m. Proceeds benefit the club's community projects.

Pancake breakfast


KEEDYSVILLE - Saturday, Jan. 8, 7 to 11 a.m., Salem United Methodist Church, 25 S. Main St. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, sausage gravy, juice and coffee. NEWVILLE, Pa. - Sponsored by Newville Cardinals Twilight Baseball Team, Sunday, Jan. 9, doors open at noon, games begin at 1:30 p.m., Newville Area Community Center, 2 Chestnut St. Tickets cost $20 and include 21 games.
