Youth soccer registration


Hagerstown Area Youth Soccer League will hold registration for the spring 2005 season from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Haven Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Funkstown Fire Hall.

Coed, girls only, and a high school division are offered. The league is open to children born between Aug. 1, 1985, and July 31, 2000.

Anger management for kids


FREDERICK, Md. - Social workers Bill Derbyshire and Nancy Miller will present "Helping Kids with Anger Management and Problem Solving" from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Thurmont Middle School, 308 E. Main St., Thurmont, Md. The snow date is Wednesday, Jan. 26.

The program focuses on anger management and problem solving with time allowed for questions and discussion.

Registration is required for child care and for dinner, which begins at 6 p.m. The program is co-sponsored by Families Plus! and Frederick County Public Schools' Community Agency School Service.

Child Care Choices continued training credit is available for Maryland child-care providers. Training credit also is available for foster parents.

Anger management for men


FREDERICK, Md. - "Anger Management for Men," a six-week group, will explore the causes of anger in men and ways of controlling negative outcomes. Scott Vaughan, mobile crisis specialist for Way Station, will lead the group.

The group will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 18 and 25, and Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22, at Families Plus!, 35 E. Church St.

Communication for couples


FREDERICK, Md. - "Effective Communication for Couples" will discuss the skills couples need to have open, positive and clear understanding of each other's needs and expectations. Deborah MacKay, Westview Psychological Services, will facilitate the group. MacKay also will talk about communication styles and ways to improve listening skills.

The free program will be offered from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at Families Plus!, 35 E. Church St. The snow date is Thursday, Jan. 27.
