City to hold ceremony for University System of Maryland

The City of Hagerstown officially will welcome the University System of Maryland to downtown Hagerstown with a key turning ceremony Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at the new campus at 32 W. Washington St.

The event is free and the public is invited to attend. Individuals requiring special accommodations are asked to call ahead at 301-791-4020.

The campus center at Hagerstown is a $13 million renovation project of the former Baldwin/Routzhan buildings. The City of Hagerstown led expansion efforts in a vacant area adjacent to the educational facility with the creation of a $2 million public park.

The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown will open its doors to students and the public with another open house on Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Spring 2005 semester classes for students attending University of Maryland, University College and University of Maryland, Baltimore will begin on Jan. 24. Frostburg State University will begin the spring 2005 semester classes in the new facility on Jan. 26.
