Lutheran Home Care Services receives award from Pa. group

December 26, 2004

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Lutheran Home Care Services Inc. recently received a Quality Champion Award from Quality Insights of Pennsylvania (QIP).

QIP is a Medicare quality improvement organization that works with Pennsylvania home-care agencies to help assure the best care possible. One area of compliance required for agencies to participate as a provider of care in the Medicare program is a regular survey to assure that their conduct meets certain standards. These standards, or quality indicators, measure the success of the agency in improving or maintaining patients' ability to live independently.

Last year, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) began releasing data that compares the quality indicators of individual home health-care providers. The Home Health Quality Initiative compares and ranks the quality of services provided by home-care agencies. The purpose of this initiative is to create a greater awareness of the benefits of home health care and give consumers a valuable tool to assist in the selection of an agency to provide care.
