Pa. pizza restaurant destroyed by fire

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - A Wednesday morning fire that destroyed a Pizza Hut restaurant in Shippensburg was being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal.

The fire at the restaurant at 815 W. King St. was called in a 2:53 a.m., according to Shippensburg Fire Chief Jamie White. He said the fire appeared to have originated at the rear of the building, but the cause had not been determined and was under investigation.

Trooper Stanford Sydnor, the state police fire marshal, could not be reached Wednesday afternoon.

White said three firefighters sustained minor injuries in the fire. Two slipped on the ice and another cut his hand on broken glass, he said.

Firefighters from the West End, Cumberland Valley Hose, Vigilant and Franklin fire companies responded to the fire, along with ambulances from Cumberland Valley, Fayetteville, Letterkenny Army Depot and West Shore ambulance services, according to a Franklin County 911 dispatcher.

The last units left the scene at 6:44 a.m., the dispatcher said.
