FORT LOUDON, Pa. - A 30-year-old McConnellsburg, Pa., man was killed Tuesday night in a car crash in Metal Township, according to Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner.
The man was identified as David M. McCardell of 13 Hillside Drive, Conner said.
McCardell was pronounced dead at the scene of the 11:03 p.m. accident three miles north of Fort Loudon on Path Valley Road.
Pennsylvania State Police said McCardell was driving a car south at a high rate of speed when he lost control on a curve. The car went into the northbound lane and was struck broadside by a 2001 Honda Civic driven by Richard Locke, 53, of Shade Gap, Pa. Police said Locke was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
McCardell's car then went off the road and hit a mailbox before its passenger side struck a utility pole, police said. The roof of the car then hit a tree before the vehicle came to rest on its roof, police said.
