Maryland composer releases first CD

The first orchestral CD of Maryland composer Jon Bauman is available on the Web at

The CD contains three Bauman works: Symphony No. 3, recorded by the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra; Adagio for Orchestra, recorded by the Slovak Radio Orchestra; and Overture to McNeill's Rangers recorded by the Potomac Highlands Symphony Orchestra.

Contestant orientation

The board of directors of Miss Washington County/Miss Western Maryland Scholarship Foundation extends an invitation to young women to enter its upcoming scholarship competition. Contestants must be ages 18 through 24 as of Sept. 1, 2005.

The pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 in Hagerstown.

Two winners will be selected, Miss Washington County 2005 and Miss Western Maryland 2005. These winners will represent the area in the annual Miss Maryland Scholarship Pageant on June 22 to 25.


All interested contestants must attend an orientation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Plaza Hotel in Hagerstown.

Presents from Santa

Children can have lunch with Santa Claus, have their picture taken and receive a present from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17. Robin's Nest, Robinwood Medical Center, Hagerstown. Children's lunch includes grilled cheese, fries, drink and pudding.
