Mail Call

December 16, 2004

"Concerning the downtown area. I just got finished coming from downtown and it just doesn't seem safe to be in downtown around late afternoon and early evening with the undesirables hanging around. Something needs to be done about this, especially if they are going to have a college opening soon."

- Hagerstown

"In response to the person who said that doctors shouldn't be complaining about malpractice. I work in a doctor's office. Your life may be in jeopardy if my physician is not available in your emergency. It is not the doctor's personal life that is the issue, it is the health and welfare of Washington County and the surrounding areas. Please remember that when you are lying in the emergency room dying."

- Smithsburg

"To the person who feels that Hagerstown doesn't need another parking deck. In case you haven't noticed, there is the University System that is opening in less than a month, which will require a parking deck. Also, if you wish to have a new baseball stadium in downtown Hagerstown, depending on where it would be located, parking would be an issue, too. Which would also require an additional need for another parking deck. You may want to drive around Hagers-town and see why we need another one."

"In response to the inquiry regarding a financial report for the Conococheague Little League, if you went to any of the volunteer league meetings, you would know where the money goes and where to get a copy of the financial reports. All you have to do is ask any volunteer league official and they will direct you to the volunteer league CPA."

- Williamsport

"We lived in Hagerstown for 25 years and now since all our children are grown up and moved away, my wife and I were looking at one or two smaller homes in the North End of Hagerstown. However, since the mayor and council decided to dip again into the taxpayers' money to fight the hospital's move, we realize we can't trust these officials. So therefore we are now considering a home in Fulton County, Pa. The taxes are much more friendly there and I think in the long run we would make out a lot better than if we would stick around in Hagerstown."

- Hagerstown

"I think the hospital should be built where the golf course is now on Dual Highway. You have access to both roads, the land is paid for and you could save a lot of money. This is the best place to build it because the golf course doesn't make any money. They are lucky if they break even each year."

- Hagerstown

"It never ceases to amaze me that people on the road are so rude. Everyone seems to be in a hurry all the time. I was a truck driver for more than five years and back then, they were respected. Today, I see everyone cutting them off. We need to be kind to one another. Give everyone the space they deserve."

Hancock

"I see where someone is complaining because they haven't received their energy assistance check yet for their heat. What are you complaining about? You have nothing to complain about. That money is being given to you by the taxpayers and you are getting free heat. Just relax, you will get your free money eventually."

"I would like to congratulate Holly and Amanda for making the dean's list at Hagerstown Business College. Great job, girls. Love, Mommy and Dave."

- Hagerstown

"The local store near Valley Mall that is not allowing the Salvation Army people outside their store this year is not the only store that doesn't allow them. There are many others. It's a store policy. I don't have a problem with it. The Salvation Army people are everywhere. Them seem to get plenty of money. I choose not to put my money in a bucket. I don't like to be made to feel guilty by people ringing the bell and many times they ring it harder when you walk by and don't put it in. I work hard all year and I don't have the extra money. The money I wanted to donate to charity, I have already done that personally, myself, privately. I don't need someone hounding me by ringing the bell."

"To all the people driving like you are nuts around the mall, slow down. I don't want my $30,000 car all banged up because you are in such a hurry and can't respect the law by slowing down. It's Christmas, slow down for God's sake. There are so many people out there, there is room for all of you and plenty of time for all of you to get there. The mall isn't going anywhere."

- Williamsport

"While visiting my granddaughter in her kindergarten class at Potomac Heights, I was amazed at the control the teacher had over her class. The class was divided into four groups. While she worked with only the reading group, the other groups were working by themselves, quietly. Good job, Mrs. Clingerman."

- Washington County

"My advice to all shoppers in Washington County, think small. Go shop at all the smaller stores. Try to stay away from the bigger stores. The smaller stores need our support and service during the holiday season. Merry Christmas to all."

- Washington County
