Cougars give Starkey a victory in Jefferson debut

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Freshman Vance Hosby had 26 points and nine rebounds in his Jefferson debut Tuesday as the Cougars defeated Potomac Falls 82-66 Tuesday, handed coach Bob Starkey his first win at the school and Potomac Falls its first loss this season.

Josh Brown had 19 points and eight rebounds and Ryland Newman added 10 points and 10 assists for the Cougars (1-0).

Walkersville 101, Boonsboro 36

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Chris Hannigan had 27 points and seven rebounds to lead the undefeated Lions past the winless Warriors.

Luther Weedon had 19 points for Walkersville (3-0). Alex Edgley had 10 points and seven rebounds and Dave Berry added seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.


Mike DeBarge and Jared Lyons each had nine points for Boonsboro (0-3).

Heritage 48, St. James 45

Travis Hendershot scored 14 points to lead Heritage Academy to a come-from-behind win over St. James. Hamilton Stamper added 13 points for the Eagles (4-1), while Brian Sandell scored 11.

Miles Chan scored 15 points and Eddie Dorsey added 12 for the Saints.

Berkeley Springs 84, Clear Spring 54

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Tony Belt had 34 points as Berkeley Springs opened the season with a rout of Clear Spring.

Ryan Morris had 14 points and John Freels added 12 for the Indians (1-0), who led 52-20 at halftime.

Darrin Jackson had 16 points and Scott Keeney had 11 for Clear Spring (0-2).

Grace 53, Calvary 49

David Hardcastle had 18 points - five of which came off foul shots in overtime - as Grace Academy slipped past Calvary Christian in Mason Dixon Christian Conference action.

James Horochowski had nine points, while A.J. Serafini and Zack Koontz each added eight for the Knights (2-1, 2-1). Alex Lehman pulled down 10 rebounds, while Hardcastle and Koontz grabbed eight each.

Ryan Chaney had 15 points to lead Calvary.

St. John's-PH 63, Loyola 51

FREDERICK, Md. - Gonzalo Aparicio scored 20 points as St. John's at Prospect Hall beat Loyola in the MIAA conference. Tanner Ellis and Sean Brennan each added 12 points and Kevin Henry had 11 for the Vikings (2-4, 1-1).

FSK 81, Catoctin 75

UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Adam Crone had 23 points and nine rebounds for Catoctin in a double-overtime loss to Francis Scott Key. John Tumulty scored 21 points and Derrick Thompson had nine rebounds and five assists for the Cougars (1-2).

Thomas Johnson 48, South Carroll 41

FREDERICK, Md. - Jair Brady had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead Thomas Johnson past South Carroll in MVAL nonconference action.

Tim Abercrombie added 11 points and Clinton Jones grabbed eight boards for the Patriots (3-0).

Urbana 82, Brunswick 54

BRUNSWICK - Ryan Brandenburg drained seven of Urbana's 11 3-pointers, including four in a one-minute span in the third quarter. The Hawks (2-0), who led 39-36 at halftime, put the game away in the third period, outscoring Brunswick, 30-5.

Brandenburg finished with a game-high 26 points as five Hawks reached double figures.

Chris Papanicolas had 15 points and seven rebounds and Joel Hafner had 12 points for Brunswick (0-4).

Chestnut Ridge 59 McConnellsburg 45

FISHERTOWN, Pa. - Rusell Glazier had 12 points and Josh Lowery added 11 to go with five assists and three steals, but McConnellsburg dropped a Sideling Hill League game to Chestnut Ridge.

Dave Thomas added nine points and five blocks, while Jesse Richards and Tyler Smith each grabbed eight rebounds for the Spartans (3-3, 1-2).

Ben Way had 22 points and Brian Barefoot added 21 for Chestnut Ridge.

Shalom 64, Faith 26

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Shalom Christian jumped out to a 30-3 lead after one period and blew out Faith Christian in an MDCC game.

Josh Raber and Anthony Butz each had 16 points to lead Shalom. Jimmy Hess had eight points for Faith (1-2, 0-2).

Southern Fulton 77, Hyndman 37

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Brad Divel had 15 points and Jay Ifert added 14 as Southern Fulton rolled past Hyndman in Sideling Hill League action.

Chris Krause had 12 points and seven rebounds, while P.J. Hixon added 11 points and five assists for the Indians (4-0, 2-0).


Walkersville 55, Boonsboro 45

BOONSBORO - April Sparkman scored 25 points and Kolbi Harrison scored 18 points for Walkersville (2-0) in its win over Boonsboro.

Jessi Ambrose scored 15 points for the Warriors (2-1) while Jerica Hewett had 11 points, four assists and two steals and Caitlyn Selby and Amy Rhoderick each had seven rebounds.

Linganore 62, North 34

NEW MARKET, Md. - Chelsea Clark and Cara Thompson each had 11 points, but North Hagerstown was overmatched and fell to unbeaten Linganore.

North (1-2) was sluggish to open the game, scoring just three points in the first quarter, which led to an 18-point halftime deficit. The Hubs didn't do much better after the break and were outscored 21-4 in the third quarter.

Bri Simpson led Linganore (3-0) with 18 points, while Megan Seeman had 16 and Britney Burall added 11.

Winters Mill 61, Williamsport 35
