Assisted living open house


Eden Pines Assisted Living for the Memory Impaired will host an open house from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Eden Pines, 310 Cameo Drive, Hagerstown. Refreshments will be served and tours will be available. For information, call 301-766-9202.

Kidney donor awareness


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Kidney Foundation of Central Pennsylvania will hold a "Kidney Donor Awareness Day" from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Alma's Attic, 54 S. Main St. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Alma's Attic is a thrift store also known for its hand-crafted specialty gifts.

The store owners have pledged to donate a portion of the store's total profits for the entire months of December and January to The Kidney Foundation of Central Pennsylvania.

Free novelty items and literature on kidney disease and organ transplantation will be available.

Volunteers from The Kidney Foundation of Central Pennsylvania and several people who have had kidney transplants and their living donors will be on hand to answer questions about organ donation and kidney disease. For information, call 1-717-263-5333.

Aerobics and strength training


Body & Soul Fitness's winter session, "Trust in You," will feature high and low impact aerobics and strength and resistance training for all ages and fitness levels.

Available classes include:

· Antrim Brethren in Christ Church, 24 E. Kauffman Road, Chambersburg, Pa., 9 to 10:05 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays, beginning Monday, Jan. 3. No childcare.

· Otterbein United Brethren Ministry Center, 912 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro, Pa., 9 to 10:05 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4. Childcare is available for $1 per child.

· Chambersburg First Church of God, 339 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, 6:30 to 7:35 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, beginning Monday, Jan. 3. Childcare is available.

· First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa., 6:30 to 7:35 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4. Free childcare.

The cost for the 10-week session is $32.50 for once a week, or $55 for two times per week.

Free step aerobics


SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Shepherd University Wellness Center will offer free step aerobics classes Tuesday, Jan. 11, through Thursday, Jan. 27. Step and Sculpt will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, and Step Interval will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays.

Step and Sculpt is a cardio-style class for beginners or experienced steppers that offers the basics of step aerobics plus exercise to tone individual muscle groups. Step Interval, a class for burning calories and firming, is a mix of aerobic and strength training intervals. Cardio moves that elevate the heart rate are mixed with resistance exercises using weights or bands to work different muscle groups.
