Leopards win in overtime

UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Laura Sudec scored 15 points and had eight rebounds as Smithsburg slipped past Francis Scott Key 58-56 in overtime on Friday.

Teonna Jewell added 11 points and four rebounds, while Tara Bywaters had nine points and five rebounds for the Leopards (1-1).

Williamsport 43, Hancock 37

WILLIAMSPORT - Kellyn Cole scored 14 points and Lindsey Smith had eight points for as Williamsport (1-2) beat Hancock.

Jennifer Willison had 12 points and Dana Beaver had nine for the Panthers (0-2).

Mercy 53, St. John's-PH 51

BALTIMORE - Marah Strickland had 28 points, 10 rebounds and two steals in St. John's at Prospect Hall's loss to Mercy in an IAAM Conference game.

Heidi Mothershead added 12 points and four rebounds for the Vikings (1-3). Ashley Traylor had six points and four rebounds.

New Life 53, Fred. Christian 24

FREDERICK, Md. - Kendra Varnon had 16 points and 21 rebounds to lead New Life past Frederick Christian Academy.


Laura Zerbe had 12 points, Abby Bryant had 10 assists and seven steals and Stephanie Bird had nine rebounds for New Life (2-2).

Taylor Colgan had 17 points for Frederick Christian.

James Buchanan 60 Milton Hershey 36

HERSHEY, Pa. - Alicia Myers had 15 points and Leanna Cristofano had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebonds as James Buchanan trounced Milton Hershey.

Shaina Martin also had 12 points and Kayla Meyers grabbed six rebounds for the Rockets (3-1).


Smithsburg 71, FSK 55

SMITHSBURG - Clay Marquiss scored a career-high 33 points as Smithsburg beat Francis Scott Key in the Leopards' home opener.

Marquiss also pulled down 17 rebounds - 11 of which came on the offensive end - and blocked three shots for the Leopards (1-1). Luke Heinrich chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds and Andrew Bohan had five assists.

John Forster led FSK (0-2) with 17 points, while Billy Hoover and Brian Testerman each had 11.

Grace 51, Faith 44

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Grace Academy made 7 of 9 free throws in overtime and outscored Faith Christian 9-2 in the period to pull out the MDCC win.

Zack Koontz led the Knights (1-1, 1-1) with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while A.J. Serafini added 15 and eight. Alex Lehman grabbed 10 boards in the win.

Chris Apple had 15 points, Justin Way had 12 and Justin Walls had 10 for Faith (1-2, 0-1)

Tuscarora 80, Boonsboro 26

FREDERICK, Md. - Danny Reed had 18 points and nine rebounds as Tuscarora pounded Boonsboro in a non-conference game.

Chris Castro had 15 points, Mitchell Weedon had 13, Hamilton Woodfolk had 11 points and nine rebounds and Brian Sweeney had eight assists and eight steals for the Titans (2-0).

Mike DeBarge had nine points for Boonsboro (0-2).

Catoctin 61, Linganore 57

THURMONT, Md. - John Tumulty had 16 points and Kyle Huyser added 12 as Catoctin held off Linganore for its first win.

The Cougars (1-1) used a 23-8 advantage in the third quarter to pull away, but the Lancers battled back only to be turned away in the end. Jake Yocum and Ian Cuddahee each had nine points, Adam Crone had six rebounds and Derrick Thompson had seven assists and three steals.

Northwest 58, Frederick 56

FREDERICK, Md. - Steven Custis had 23 points, nine rebounds, six steals and four assists as Frederick fell short against Northwest.

Quenton Beard had nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks for the Cadets (1-1).

Chambersburg 57 Cedar Cliff 42

HIGHLAND PARK, Pa. - Jonathan Motichka scored 10 of his team-high 20 points in the first quarter and Chambersburg made 15 steals to defeat Cedar Cliff in Mid-Penn Commonwealth action.

Colby Nitterhouse had 12 points and Urese Taylor added nine to go with seven rebounds for the Trojans (4-0, 2-0). Matt George had four assists and six steals.

James Buchanan 50 Milton Hershey 45

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Shane Rife had 12 points and 10 rebounds as James Buchanan outlasted Milton Hershey.

Milton Hershey's Josh Pope appeared to be well on his way to a career game with 17 first-half points, but JB guard Shase Hollenshead stepped up his defense and held the Spartans' leading scorer to just two points in the second half.

Matt Heckman also had 12 points and Brandon Bryan added 10 for the Rockets (3-1). Zach Shipp grabbed eight rebounds and made five steals.

West Perry 52, Waynesboro 41

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Josh Arendt scored 10 points for Waynesboro in a loss to West Perry. John Long added 10 points for the Indians (2-2), while Kevin Kline and Scott Livengood each scored seven points.

Northern Bedford 49 McConnellsburg 37

LOYSBURG, Pa. - Josh Lowery scored 12 points in McConnellsburg's Sideling Hill League loss to Northern Bedford. Matt Spriggs had 10 points, four steals and three assists and Dave Thomas had 12 rebounds for the Spartans (3-1).

Calvary 55, CVCS 54

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Adam Romero had 25 points and five steals, but Cumberland Valley Christian fell short in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference loss to Calvary Christian.

Jordan McBeth added 12 points and six rebounds before fouling out for the Blazers (2-4, 1-1).
