Va. man dies in morning crash on U.S. 15

FREDERICK, Md. - A Virginia man died Wednesday morning after he was hit by a car on U.S. 15 north of Devilbiss Bridge Road, Maryland State Police said.

Police did not know whether the man was in the travel lane or on the shoulder of the road when he was hit by a red 1998 Nissan 200SX heading north around 3 a.m., according to a state police news release. The man's vehicle had become disabled.

Cedric L. Lewis, 50, of Staunton, Va., was being flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore when he died, police said.

The driver of the Nissan, Glenn Oliver Rickard III, 46, of Victor Drive in Thurmont, Md., was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released, police said.

The Maryland State Police collision reconstruction specialist was reconstructing the collision north of Frederick, police said. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, police said.

The road was opened before morning rush hour, police said.

Police said the incident was under investigation late Wednesday.
