David M. Satterfield, son of Karen I. Couch of Uhrichsville, Ohio, and David H. Satterfield of Cadiz, Ohio, has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program and graduating with a bachelor's degree from Park University through the military extension program in Dayton, Ohio.

His wife, Shannon, is the daughter of Sharion Avery of Hagerstown.




Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew L. Shank, son of Tammy L. and Kenneth L. Shank of Falling Waters, W.Va., recently returned from a routine, scheduled deployment, while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Barry, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Shank was one of more than 8,000 sailors and Marines deployed aboard the ships of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (CSG).

Shank, a 2001 graduate of Hedgesville (W.Va.) High School, joined the Navy in July 2001.




Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Markoe F. Beachley III, son of Markoe and Christine Beachley of Middletown, Md., and husband of Lisa Beachley of Jacksonville, N.C., recently deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, along with 17 other volunteers from the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment stationed at Camp Lejuene, N.C. His team will serve as part of the Combined, Anti-Armor Taskforce.

Beachley, a 2002 graduate of Middletown High School, joined the Marine Corps in November 2002.




Navy Seaman Recruit Jennifer E. Deeter, stepdaughter of Lisa A. and daughter of James A. Deeter of Thurmont, Md., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Deeter is a 2004 graduate of Catoctin High School in Thurmont.




Navy Fireman Ryan D. Hunt, son of Barbara L. and Douglas Hunt of Charles Town, W.Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Hunt is a 2004 graduate of Martinsburg (W.Va.) High School.




Navy Seaman Apprentice Sean O. Holmes, son of Delena A. and Victor L. Holmes of Martinsburg, W.Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Holmes is a 2002 graduate of Martinsburg (W.Va.) High School.




Navy Seaman Apprentice Samuel E. LaRue, son of Tina M. and Michael E. LaRue of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill., with honors.

LaRue is a 2004 graduate of Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.




Marine Corps Pfc. Patrick M. McNew, son of Ann M. Kastle of Charles Town, W.Va., recently was promoted to his current rank while serving with Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21, Naval Air Training Command, Pensacola, Fla.

McNew was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.

McNew is a 2003 graduate of Wiliamsport High School and joined the Marine Corps in February 2004.




Army Pfc. Anthony D. Neff, son of Catherine A. Neff of Frederick, Md., and grandson of Shiela A. Zubajlo of Crownsville, Md., has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to engage in military operations involving U.S. and coalition forces.

Neff is a metal worker and a 2003 graduate of Governor Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick.




Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jason S. Jacobs, son of Dawn M. and James R. Mathis of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., recently returned from a seven-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Jacobs' ship was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terrorism as the flagship of the Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group.

Jacobs is a 2000 graduate of Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., and joined the Navy in December 2000.
