Goretti girls win Lions Classic

Jessica Myers had a game-high 14 points to lead St. Maria Goretti past Broadfording Christian 48-38 in the championship game of the Lion Classic.

Sarah Spierenburg and Erica DeMercurio each added eight points for the Gaels (2-0), which outscored Broadfording 11-4 from the free throw line.

Tina Conner led the Lions (1-1) with 11 points, while Cindel Young grabbed 12 rebounds. Emily Stranskey had seven rebounds and Leslie Brown had five steals in the loss.

Monday in the first round, Erin Haney had 12 points and Tasha Dennen had nine points for St. Maria Goretti as it beat Highland View Academy, 53-34.



Hood College 104, Mount Aloysius 95

FREDERICK, Md. - Santo Provenzano had 34 points and 10 rebounds to lead Hood College past Mount Aloysius. Provenzano hit 22 of 32 from the free throw line.

David Wilson added 32 points, hitting 13 of 14 field goals and nine rebounds for the Blazers (2-1) while Jesse Gutekunst had a career high 10 points along with six rebounds. Hood's 104 points were the most in school history.

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Williamsport High School graduate Brooke Weimer scored 10 points and Smithsburg High School's Katy Powell scored eight as McDaniel College defeated Swartmore College, 66-49.

Kelley-Franklin wins first

TOWSON, Md. - The Hood College women produced the first ever victory for coach Tracey Kelley-Franklin in a 61-38 victory over Goucher College. Danielle Allen scored 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and is now seven rebounds shy of setting a new Hood (1-2) career record.
