Boyds man dies in two-vehicle crash

FREDERICK, Md. - A Boyds, Md., man died Friday after two trucks crashed south of Frederick, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

After the collision, one of the drivers, Daniel Paul Sivert, 52, was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died after about three hours, police said.

Police said Audelino Santiago, 24, of Hyattsville, Md., was eastbound on Md. 80.

Driving a 2002 Ford F-550, Santiago lost control of the vehicle on the wet pavement west of Baker Valley Road and slid into the opposite lane, hitting Sivert's 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 head-on, police said.

Sivert, who was westbound, swerved, but still hit the other truck, police said.

Police said Santiago was charged with failure to drive right of center and negligent driving.

Santiago and his passenger, 19-year-old Josue Martinez, were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital. Police said they were treated and released.


Info is sought on pedestrian accident

FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in obtaining information about a pedestrian accident Thursday morning.

Police said a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the 100 block of North East Street at about 10:40 a.m. The pedestrian was injured, but conscious and alert when officers arrived, according to police.

The pedestrian, whose identity was not released, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police also did not identify the driver and released no information that any charges were filed in the incident.
