Bond for a Hagerstown man charged in the beating death of his 3-year-old daughter has been set at $500,000, according to court records.

Washington County District Judge M. Kenneth Long Jr. set the bond for Scott Eugene Patterson during a hearing Monday, records state.

Patterson, 26, of 330 N. Mulberry St. in Hagerstown, was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, first-degree child abuse resulting in death, child abuse resulting in a death and child abuse by a parent resulting in a death, records state.

Patterson was being held Monday evening at the Washington County Detention Center, a detention center spokesman said.

He has been held at Washington County Detention Center since Oct. 30 on initial charges that included child abuse and assault that were filed before the death of his daughter, Madyson King.

Police say the child was beaten Oct. 25.

On Oct. 26, about 20 hours after Madyson was beaten for knocking over a bucket of water, Patterson bathed the toddler for 30 minutes in cold water in an unsuccessful attempt to wake her from an unresponsive state and then took her to Washington County Hospital, the Hagerstown Police Department alleges.

Investigators were informed Nov. 9 that the girl died from her injuries, records state. Records state Madyson died of blunt force trauma to the head, with a subdural hemorrhage.

The murder charges were filed in the case Nov. 12, records state.
