Norman L. Crummitt, 42


JAN. 26, 1962-NOV. 13, 2004

Norman Lee Crummitt, 42, of 212 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at his home.

Born Jan. 26, 1962, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late William E. Jr. and Peggy L. Miller Crummitt.

He was a carpenter by trade.

He is survived by one sister, Teresa Gray of Hagerstown; four brothers, Mark Crummitt of Hagerstown, Gene Crummitt of Sharpsburg, William E. Crummitt III of Frederick and Donald W. Sweeney of Middletown, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Joseph Quesenberry will officiate.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.




Margaret L. May, 83


JUNE 13, 1921-NOV. 13, 2004

BOONSBORO - Margaret Louise May, 83, of Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, and formerly of 104 S. Main St., died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004.

Born June 13, 1921, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Edward H. and Beulah Cline Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Theodore May, Jan. 6, 1974.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Boonsboro.

She is survived by one daughter, Connie Myers of Williamsport; one son, Larry E. May of Boonsboro; three granddaughters; one grandson; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Clopper.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.




Linda K. Rickard, 52


MARCH 10, 1952-NOV. 13, 2004

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Linda Kay Rickard, 52, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at City Hospital.

Born March 10, 1952, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Anne Pearl Mahoney Viands.

She was previously employed by Doubleday in Berryville, Va.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel E. Rickard; one daughter, Jenny Lust of Martinsburg; one son, William Cogle of Romney, W.Va.; one sister, Paula K. Kerns of North Carolina; one brother, Richard C. Viands of Rippon, W.Va.; three grandchildren; and a number of half sisters and half brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Christine S. Vernon, 94


SEPT. 8, 1910-NOV. 13, 2004

WINCHESTER, Va. - Christine Snyder Vernon, 94, of Winchester, and formerly of Summit Point, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Westminster-Canterbury, Winchester.

Born Sept. 8, 1910, in Shenstone Farm, Summit Point, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Mary Margaret Sydenstricker Snyder.

She was a 1938 graduate with a bachelor of science degree in home economics, and received her master's degree from Scarritt College for Christian Workers, Nashville, Tenn.

She taught Christian education at the former Sue Bennett College in London, Ky.

She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Berryville, Va.; served as a deaconess in several Methodist churches; and was a member of United Methodist Women.

She served as a regional Girl Scout leader in Kentucky and was a member of PEO.

She is survived by three nieces; two nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Bell; one sister, Elizabeth Snyder; and three brothers, James Snyder, Charles W. Snyder II and Wallace Snyder.

Services will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Berryville. The Rev. William K. Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town, W.Va.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to South Jefferson Public Library, Summit Point, WV 25446; or to Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 210 W. Main St., Berryville, VA 22611.

Charles P. Hartle, 88

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Charles P. Hartle, 88, formerly of Mercersburg, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Quincy (Pa.) United Methodist Home, where he resided for the past two years.

Born Jan. 25, 1916, in Chewsville, he was the son of the late Charles P. Sr. and Irene Norford Hartle.

He was employed by Pangborn Corp. of Hagerstown for 39 years. He retired in 1984.

He is survived by his wife, A. Marie Dofflemyer Hartle, whom he married in 1937; two daughters, Karen L. Dietrich of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Sonya L. Marsh of Hagerstown; one sister, Margaret Russman of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
