Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"To the teacher who called in about not making $50,000 a year. The last time I checked, teachers only worked about eight hours a day and seven and a half months a year. Now if they were to work six days a week, nine hours a day, 52 weeks a year, they may be worth $50,000 then rather than the $44,000 they get for working half a year now."

"I saw in the paper the other day where they had a recipe for fried apples and I forgot to cut it out. Could someone leave it in the paper again for me? I would appreciate it."

- Sharpsburg

"I want to reply to the person who called in about the lady only getting $723 a month and had to let the utilities go. I went to the utility company and tried to get help, I only get a few more dollars than this person and because I was only one dollar over the allowed amount, I could not get help."

- Berkeley County, W.Va.

"If you are looking for a fun time this weekend, go see Chambersburg Community Theater's 50-year review, Saturday night at the Capitol Theater. The show will last for about two hours."

- Maugansville

"To our neighbors on Clinton Avenue who have been fighting for the past nine years. We all took a vote, we are tired of being in the middle. We think we all should move."

- Halfway

"In reference to the financing for the new REACH Shelter. This is ridiculous; why does Hagerstown have to pay $100,000 so it can be easy to be a bum in Hagerstown? Don't spend your money on that, spend on something worthwhile."

- Hagerstown

"I am a Washington County school teacher who is new to this profession, and I am realizing that all I basically do is maintain and discipline kids. I am not even sure what teaching is any more. I don't feel it and I am very saddened that I chose this profession. All my life, this is all I ever wanted to do. I feel that I am beaten down, I feel like the kids are running the homes. I try to have parent contacts and the parents don't say much. I would not at this point advise anyone to go into the teaching position."

- Hagerstown

"I was wondering if there was a place in Clear Spring who would donate me a place to use indoors for a Christmas cookie and candy bake sale. I would like to have it about a week before Christmas. The fund-raiser is for a man in need of a liver transplant. You can call me at 301-842-1086."

- Clear Spring

"I am calling in regards to the recent City Council meeting. In that meeting, Penny Nigh stated that two people wrote her letters regarding the poor care that they were fearful of at Washington County Hospital. I am a nurse in Frederick, but I have been a patient as well as my family has had nothing but excellent care at Washington County Hospital. I say that as a health professional. I feel that Penny Nigh is putting down wonderful health professionals when she makes such statements. I hope some day she will be a patient at Washington County Hospital and see the wonderful care they give there because obviously she isn't aware of the great care given."

- Hagerstown

"What is the building that is supposed to be for REACH at the former Cannon Shoe Factory going to be used for, beside the new REACH shelter? I read the other day where there are going to be many other things there. In plain words, there will come a day where there won't be room for the homeless again."

- Clear Spring

"I am writing about the vandalism at South High after the North-South game the other night. I would like to see them ban all games between the two schools in the future, unless someone comes forward and admit they did this. It is our tax dollars that has to help pay to clean up someone's ignorance."

- Washington County

"For the person who is looking for a soldier to send a card to. I know a boy that is over there and his address is: SPC Line David P. 100 4th QM.CO. APO-AE09328. He appreciates anyone that sends him stuff. He has been there since December 2003."

"I am so heartbroken over the death of Madyson King. I just wanted to let the mother know that our hearts and prayers are with them."

"I want to comment about the caller who loved Bush and couldn't understand how anyone could hate him. He has alienated the world against us with his arrogance and his war dog policies. The refund that you got from Bush, created a deficit from God knows where."

- Martinsburg, W.Va.

"People say Bush has a smirk on his face. How about the smirk that Clinton had on his face when he said he didn't have sex with that woman? That is what you call a smirk."

- Washington County
