AMC observes Veterans Day with war-related movies, starting with James Stewart in "Strategic Air Command" (1955).

In prime time, it's John Wayne in "The Green Berets" (1968) starting at 8 p.m.

8 p.m. on ABC

"Saving Private Ryan"

Director Steven Spielberg's acclaimed World War II film, first shown on ABC three years ago, makes another Veterans Day appearance.

Tom Hanks, Edward Burns and Tom Sizemore star. (The network says this is an unedited version and advises parental discretion.)

9 p.m. on HBO

"Last Letters Home"


A Veterans Day tribute to Americans who lost their lives in Iraq features family members and friends reading the last letters they received from loved ones, and sharing memories and mementos. Director Bill Couturie says the letters "put a human face on the cost of war."
