Gold Wing Riders to coordinate can drive with hoedown

WILLIAMSPORT - The Washington County chapter of the National Gold Wing Road Riders Association recently collected 460 cans of food at the annual Hobo Stew event, for which participants bring one can to donate and one to add to the stew pot.

According to Carole Keyser, the group will coordinate its 2005 Hobo Stew with the Harvest Hoedown held each year to benefit the Williamsport Food Bank.

Keyser and food bank Director Mary Anna Kline hope that having the two events on the same day will increase contributions to both.

This fall's Harvest Hoedown cleared 6,500 pounds of food, as well as $10,849 to buy perishables and other needs for the food bank, which is still in its temporary storefront location on Governor Lane Boulevard next to the Harley-Davidson store.

The food bank is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
