School psychologists to hold open house

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Berkeley County Schools staff of school psychologists will hold an open house Wednesday at the Ramer Center on the second floor of 515 W. Martin St., Martinsburg, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

This week marks School Psychology Awareness Week and is when Berkeley County Schools' parent-teacher conferences are held, according to Jaimee Borger, spokeswoman for Berkeley County Schools.

Berkeley County Schools employs a team of seven full-time West Virginia-certified school psychologists, she said.

West Virginia school psychology licenses and national certifications are held by Jeanne Allen, Cindy Harless, Janice Taylor and Barbara Waddell, Borger said.

School psychologists obtain a minimum of 60 graduate credits in psychology assessment techniques, counseling, learning theory, human development, education research and educational practices of the special needs student, she said.

Handouts for educators and parents will be available on several psycho-educational topics.
